The Sunday Guardian report reveals that the activities carried out by NDI, IRI and IFES are quite suspicious. NDI released reports on federal structure, Dalit rights, climate change and the role of youth between 2020-22 and prepared a training toolkit for youth.
Kathmandu/Washington:
Following violent protests that destroyed hundreds of buildings, burned down Parliament and the Supreme Court, and left nearly 50 people dead, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s government in Nepal fell. A social media ban, unemployment, and corruption all contributed to the unrest.
Earlier, The Sunday Guardian reported that some local leaders were implicated in attempts to shift power in Nepal. According to USAID documents cited in the report, the United States has given Nepal more than $900 million since 2020, primarily through the Washington-based consortium CEPPS and institutions like NDI, IRI, and IFES that concentrate on civic, electoral, media, and governance initiatives.
The script for change of power was written in America
It is quite unusual for a small country like Nepal to receive such a large amount of financial aid. In May 2022, USAID signed a $402.7 million Development Objectives Agreement (DOAG) with Nepal’s Ministry of Finance. As of February 2025, $158 million had already been distributed and $244.7 million remained unspent.
