Stop it if you can… Now Russia is extracting LNG from the Arctic and selling it to China, an open challenge to America

Stop it if you can… Now Russia is extracting LNG from the Arctic and selling it to China, an open challenge to America.

Russia has started extracting LNG from the Arctic and selling it to China despite US sanctions. The second LNG tanker from Siberia’s Arctic LNG 2 project has recently arrived in China. This delivery has taken place soon after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to China.

The impact of the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping is beginning to show. Russia has supplied the second batch of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to China under the banned Arctic LNG 2 project. This gas has arrived through an LNG tanker. In such a situation, questions are arising whether America will take similar action against China for purchasing banned Russian gas as it has taken against India. America has imposed a 50 percent tariff against India on the purchase of Russian oil. However, the Trump administration has not yet taken anything against China, the biggest buyer of Russian oil and gas.

The Russian Voskhod LNG tanker headed south after unloading 150,000 cubic metres of LNG at the Taishan port in Guangxi, China. This is the second shipment from the banned Arctic LNG 2 project in China. Earlier in August, the Arctic Mulan tanker arrived in Beihai. The project, which is set to begin production in December 2023, is facing Western sanctions and a shortage of ice-class gas carriers. The shipment arrived a few days after Putin’s visit to China.
