The BRICS countries have raised their voice against US President Donald Trump’s tariff war. In the summit organized at the request of Brazilian President Lula da Silva, all the leaders have criticized the tariff without naming America.
The BRICS summit was held today amidst the panic created in the world by the US tariffs. This summit was held virtually. The meeting was hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The big thing is that Prime Minister Narendra Modi stayed away from this meeting and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar took over from India’s side. This meeting took place after the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held recently in China.
Brazil took direct aim at Trump Chairing the BRICS meeting, Brazilian President Lula da Silva said greater trade and financial integration among the BRICS group of developing nations would help mitigate the effects of protectionism. “Tariff blackmail is becoming more normalised as a weapon to capture markets and interfere in domestic issues,” Lula said at a virtual meeting of BRICS leaders, without directly referring to the US.
