China’s Defense Minister crosses the line, threatens to annex Taiwan again.
China has once again issued a threat regarding Taiwan. Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun has stated that his country will annex Taiwan. China also regularly conducts military drills in areas surrounding Taiwan.
Taipei: China has once again given Taiwan a cold shoulder. Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun issued a significant statement. At the start of a security forum in Beijing, Jun once again threatened to annex self-ruled Taiwan. Addressing international military officials at the Beijing Xiangshan Forum, Dong said Taiwan, a democracy of 23 million people that has been separate from China since 1949, is an integral part of the post-war international order for China.
What did China’s Defense Minister say?
Chinese Defense Minister Dong said that China will ‘never allow any separatist attempt for Taiwan independence to succeed’ and is ready to thwart ‘any external military intervention’. He said, “The Chinese military is willing to work with all parties as a force for global peace, stability and progress.” Without naming the US, Dong criticized practices such as “external military intervention, seeking hegemony and forcing others to choose sides,” saying these are ways to push the international community into “chaos and conflict.”
