Italy Draws a Red Line: Palestine Recognition Hinges on Hamas Removal & Hostage Release

Italy Draws a Red Line:  Palestine Recognition Hinges on Hamas Removal & Hostage Release.

Amid the Israel-Gaza war, a global movement is underway to recognize a Palestinian state. Countries like France, Britain, and Australia have recently recognized Palestine as a country. Meanwhile, Italy has said that it will consider recognizing Palestine only after certain conditions are met.

Italy will recognize a Palestinian state only if all Israeli hostages are released and the Hamas terrorist group is excluded from any government role, Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in York, Meloni also said international pressure should be placed on Hamas rather than Israel. He accused the group of starting the war and obstructing its end by refusing to hand over hostages.
