The Foreign Minister stressed on not linking trade with non-trade activities and reducing the trade deficit among BRICS countries. He gave a strong message without naming the US.
India’s Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar participated in the emergency meeting of the BRICS Summit today. Many important issues were discussed in this meeting.Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Brazilian President Lula da Silva also attended this meeting. Earlier, PM Modi was supposed to attend this meeting but due to some reasons, he did not attend it. During the meeting, S Jaishankar gave a strong message to the world.

In the face of various global challenges, the multilateral system seems to be failing. The global trading system should be based on the principles of an open, non-discriminatory approach. India believes this must be protected. Without naming US President Donald Trump, Dr S Jaishankar said that raising barriers and making transactions difficult will not help. Trade should not be linked to non-trade activities. Trade must always be facilitated. Countries need to strengthen their economic systems and increase cooperation in global trade, investment and development.
