Texas of America has banned Sharia law. This has caused a stir among Muslim organizations. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has said that the implementation of Islamic Sharia law has been banned in his state. He also urged residents to report any person or organization attempting to impose Sharia law enforcement to local police or the Texas Department of Public Safety. Following the video of a cleric in Houston, Texas Governor Abbott said that there was no need to be afraid of Sharia idiots. He described the incident as persecution and stressed that the imposition of religious law is not allowed in Texas. Abbott said he had signed laws that ban Sharia law and the compound.
Although Texas does not have a formal “Sharia Ban Law,” the 2017 American Laws for American Courts bill prevents foreign or religious laws from being applied when they conflict with U.S. law.
Outcry in Muslim organizations
Muslim rights group CAIR called Governor Abbott’s statements misleading and clarified that Sharia law is limited only to personal religious conduct and has no bearing on civil law. Abbott previously opposed the East Plano Islamic Center’s (EPIC) 400-acre residential and commercial project, alleging it could become a “Sharia zone,” and called for an investigation by state agencies.
