Will India be granted permanent UN membership? A UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Antonio Guterres supports changes to the Security Council to better reflect the world of 2025 rather than 1945.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, praised India’s importance to the United Nations. He said India is a strong supporter of multilateralism and an important voice at the UN. Guterres described his good relations with the Indian government. Dujarric stressed the need for reform of the Security Council to better reflect the world of 2025, although he left the decision on permanent membership to member states. This statement comes at a time when US President Donald Trump is about to meet Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif, while Trump has taken many strict steps against India.
