Sheikh Hasina’s voter ID has been blocked by Bangladesh Election Commission; will she be able to contest the election now?

Bangladesh’s Election Commission has blocked former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s voter ID, preventing her from participating in the February elections.

Bangladesh’s Election Commission has dealt a major blow to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Election Commission’s decision has dashed the hopes of ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina contesting the elections. The Election Commission has “locked” Sheikh Hasina’s national identity card, barring her from voting in the general elections to be held in February next year.

They were also prevented from voting.

There are reports that Rehana’s daughters Tulip Rizwana Siddique, Azmina Siddique, nephew Radwan Mujeeb Siddique Bobby, her relative and Hasina’s former security adviser retired Major General Tariq Ahmed Siddique, his wife, Shaheen Siddique, and daughter, Bushra Siddique, have also been barred from voting. Ahmed said those who have gone abroad “to escape the law” or for other reasons can vote as long as their NID cards remain active.
